The Springfield and White House Heritage Middle School basketball teams split a doubleheader on the final night of the regular season on Monday, Jan. 6.
The Lady Patriots beat Springfield 35-24 thanks to 16 points from Macie McFarlin. Olivia Gertiano finished with seven for Heritage, while Madison Luoma carried the Lady Jackets with 13.
Springfield got revenge in the second game, with the Yellow Jacket boys picking up a 44-31 victory. Kelan Clardy led Springfield with 11 points, while Sean Dowlen finished with 10.
Rocco Gertiano produced 14 points to pace Heritage. Eli Gregory added nine.
Three days later, the No. 6 seed Springfield girls upset No. 3 Heritage 33-31 in the first round of the RCMSAA tournament. The Heritage and Springfield boys were set to meet in the RCMSAA semifinals on Saturday, Jan. 11.
