The biggest difference between Tuesday’s game and others this season was clear for White House Heritage coach Clay Head.
“We scored.”
The Lady Patriots (2-4) were averaging just over 35 points per game entering Tuesday’s tilt against Greenbrier.
They put their offensive woes to bed with a season-high 64 points. Heritage won by 18 on the road and defeated the Lady Cats 64-46.
“We made shots we haven’t been making,” Head said. “I think that helps a lot. We took good shots and we took it with confidence.
“We’ve been better than what we’ve been playing, and we knew that. Maybe tonight can help us get going and build off of that as we go forward.”
Heritage held an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and doubled their advantage by halftime. Their largest lead – 26 – came off a pair of free throws from Alayna Richardson in the third.
Nine different players scored for the Lady Patriots and four players scored at least eight. Senior guard Armonie Toliver paced all players with 14.
“This win was very important to us,” Toliver said. “It definitely got our mindset back into the game. … We just connected more on the floor tonight.”
Ella Disney led Greenbrier on offense with nine points. After a 26-point win over Montgomery Central in their district opener, the Lady Cats fell to 2-5 with the loss.
Heritage snapped a four-game losing streak and picked up its second win of the season.
“Tonight’s just one game,” Head said. “If we don’t build off of it, then it’s all for nothing. Hopefully we just keep going.
“It was good to see some of our girls play relaxed and have fun and score.”
The Lady Patriots will play their next game at home against Westmoreland on Friday, Dec. 10. Greenbrier hosts Cheatham County on Thursday.
