It did not take long for first-year White House Heritage boys basketball Carl Miller to get over the Springfield hurdle.

The Patriots topped the visiting Yellow Jackets 58-45 on Monday, Nov. 25 for the first win over their county rival since the 2013-14 season. Springfield had won the five previous meetings between the two programs.

Junior forward Ben Branlund led Heritage with 12 points and six rebounds. Senior Aaron Neely and sophomore Daniel Bale both finished with 10 points apiece. Neely also dished out seven assists.

Springfield held a 24-23 advantage at halftime, but its offense managed just 21 points in the second half. Heritage (2-2) reeled off 35 points in the last two quarters, paced by 10 points from Branlund.

Keimarian Flair, Savion Scott and Will Smith each finished with 10 points for Springfield (1-3).

In the girls game, Heritage beat Springfield 54-43 behind a game-high 21 points from senior guard Kelsey Russell.

Russell nailed four of the Lady Patriots' six made three-point attempts. Fellow senior Alex Green also finished in double figures with 15.

Junior Deondra Miles carried the Lady Jackets (0-4) with 14 points. Senior Elizabeth Funk chipped in eight.

Springfield was set to travel to White House on Monday, Dec. 2. White House Heritage will visit Hendersonville on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
