The Springfield softball team laid the hammer to Northwest Monday night to celebrate their four seniors with a 14-0 victory.
All nine starters crossed home plate at least once, and Brie Asmondy pitched a complete game.
Seniors Victoria Clark, McKennah Dunn and Ellie Friedmann, all played to cap off their careers at home. Lena Jones was also honored but is injured.
Head coach Daniel Owsley said his seniors have been a key part of this program, and he was happy to send them off the proper way after last year’s cancellation. He even celebrated Northwest’s seniors with a gift after the game.
“They’ve been everything,” Owsley said. “They have come in to work everyday. They work hard. They lead by example, so just to see them enjoy this and enjoy winning this is just--I can’t put it into words.”
Owsley said at the beginning of the year that the season was simply practice for the postseason. He believes they have the opportunity to make some noise in the district tournament.
“They’ve got the talent,” Owsley said. “They’ve got the ability to get there. It’s just a matter of (making) our plays and putting the ball in play… We’re feeling pretty good, comfortable where we’re at. We like our situation we’re in, so I can’t wait to get started.”
