The six area teams went a combined 3-3 last week, and since I picked each of them, I also went 3-3. White House, East Robertson and Jo Byrns all picked up victories in Week 4. Springfield was stunned by Wilson Central. Greenbrier and White House Heritage also suffered losses.

White House will play at Nissan Stadium Thursday night against Waverly. The Tennessee Titans have opened up their home field to Waverly as the community recovers from the flood.

Springfield, Heritage, East Robertson and Jo Byrns all face region opponents this week. Greenbrier is the first team to take their bye here in Week 5.

Here are my picks for Week 5 of the 2021 season:

My record: 15-6

Kenwood at Springfield

The Yellow Jackets were missing several players due to COVID-19 and paid for it with a shocking 7-6 upset loss to Wilson Central at home last week. Whether many of those players will be able to return this week is unclear but could play a key factor in the game.

This is a Region 7-5A matchup. Kenwood is coming off of a 25-13 win over West Creek last week. In their only region game so far, the Knights lost to Henry County, the preseason favorite.

If all players are healthy, Springfield is the better team, but one thing I have noticed over the last couple years is that plans can be scratched very easily. I’m picking Springfield again, and they will need this win if they want to get a top-two seed in the playoffs.

Pick: Springfield 24, Kenwood 7

Sycamore at WH Heritage

White House Heritage will finally play their first region opponent this week as they host the War Eagles.

The Patriots have lost their last two outings after opening the season with two wins. Their run attack appears solid behind Malakhai Illaramendi, Damian Dobak and quarterback Taye Francis, but they were unable to complete a pass last week against DCA.

This should be a win for the Patriots as Sycamore is still looking for their first victory. The War Eagles fell last week to Harpeth.

This could be a nice opportunity for Heritage to work out some of their weak spots before getting into the rest of their region slate.

Pick: WH Heritage 35, Sycamore 12

White House at Waverly

The Blue Devils will have the rare-seen opportunity to play at Nissan Stadium Thursday night against Waverly. White House scored 55 points in their victory over Portland last week.

It’s great to see the way Waverly football has united that community and the Middle Tennessee area. They are 3-0 on the season, and their one region win was over Sycamore their first game back.

The Blue Devils could steal the show on the biggest stage. It is clear they can score plenty of points, but their defense allowed 40 points to Portland. With a good performance on both sides of the ball, White House could move to 2-0 in the region and have quite the high school football memory forever.

Pick: White House 28, Waverly 27

East Robertson at Harpeth

East Robertson picked up their first win of the season last week, annihilating Cheatham County. They have another great opportunity for win this week against Harpeth.

Harpeth is now in Region 4-2A as well, so there will be a lot riding on this matchup. They are coming off of their second win of the season over Sycamore. They also lost their season opener to Jo Byrns.

I see the road team getting their second win and first region win on Friday.

Pick: East Robertson 20, Harpeth 14

Clay County at Jo Byrns

Jo Byrns is 3-1 so far this season and 1-0 in Region 4-1A. They can finish no lower than third in the region.

Clay County is always a tough out. The Red Devils lost to them on the road last season by a score of 48-7.

An upset against possibly the best team in the region would be an incredible statement. I just don’t see it happening.

Pick: Clay County 30, Jo Byrns 14
