Hunter Hicks

Hunter Hicks has accepted a coaching job with Portland East Middle School.

Hunter Hicks is coming home to coach football in Portland.

The 2001 Portland High School graduate recently accepted the head coaching position at Portland East Middle School. He replaces Wes Inman, who resigned to take an assistant coaching position at Portland High School.

Hicks was a captain of the 2000 Portland team that won the Class AAA state championship under longtime coach Roger Perry. The Panthers went a perfect 15-0 and throttled Covington 43-0 for their first and only state title.

Hicks began his coaching career as an assistant under Perry at Portland, before leaving to help start the football program at Knox Doss at Drakes Creek Middle School in 2009. He then spent three seasons as offensive coordinator at Mt. Juliet and three more seasons in the same role at White House Heritage from 2013-16.

When Pat Brown stepped down at Heritage in 2016, Hicks took over the head job. However, he was fired after the Patriots went 0-10 in 2017. Hicks had a 4-16 record in his two seasons as head coach.
