Bobcat soccer team beats Portland in district tournament

Greenbrier survived and advanced in the District 9-AA soccer tournament with a 3-2 overtime victory over Portland on Friday.

Alex Santiago scored the game winner on a free kick with 2:10 remaining in the first overtime period and the Bobcats held on for the win.

The Panthers grabbed an early lead at the 30:36 mark of the first half but Greenbrier tied things up two minutes later when Jony Angel scored.

The game remained tied until Portland tallied with 12:33 remaining in the second half.

However, the Bobcats responded quickly again, just three minutes later this time, when Nathan Ford scored and knotted the game at two.

Greenbrier was scheduled to face Beech in the second round on Monday, May 6.
