The two Robertson County teams to reach the state tournament were well awarded for their efforts in this spring’s all-county softball team.

Pitchers Brie Asmondy (Springfield) and Korey Harris (Jo Byrns) won Robertson County Pitcher of the Year and Two-Way Player of the Year awards, respectively. Jo Byrns coach Jada Head was named the county’s Coach of the Year and Springfield earned Team of the Year honors.

In all, 20 players from Robertson County were selected to the team, with 11 hailing from Jo Byrns or Springfield.

The all-county softball team is comprised of players from five schools: East Robertson, Greenbrier, Jo Byrns, Springfield and White House Heritage. White House players were named to the All-Sumner County team.

Nominations and statistics were pulled from county coaches, and The Connection made final decisions on the awards. The full team is listed below:

Pitcher of the Year: Brie Asmondy, Springfield senior

Stats: 168 IP, 21-4 record, 1.33 ERA, 207 K, TSCA Class 4A Miss Softball

Asmondy won the Robertson County Pitcher of the Year award every season she could, but 2022 may have been her best work yet. She set career marks in innings pitched, ERA and strikeouts while also eclipsing 500 Ks across her career.

With the District 13-4A Co-MVP and Trevecca signee in the circle, Springfield returned to the state tournament for the first time since 2019 and finished among the final six teams in Class 4A.

Two-Way Player of the Year: Korey Harris, Jo Byrns senior

Stats: .348 AVG, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 20 SB, 94 IP, 146 K, 1.62 ERA, .169 BAA, District 8-1A MVP

Jo Byrns doesn’t sniff the state tournament without Harris, the only senior who started for the Red Devils this season.

The Vol State signee turned it on in the final month of the season – she paired her .438 batting average with a 1.15 ERA and 72 strikeouts in the circle – and carried JBHS to a third-place finish in its first trip to the Class 1A tournament.

Coach of the Year: Jada Head, Jo Byrns

Resume: 22-11 record, District 8-1A championship, Region 4-1A championship, third place in Class 1A state tournament

Head’s third season proved to be a breakthrough for Jo Byrns softball. After reaching a region championship and sectional game for the first time ever last season, Head led the Cedar Hill school to its inaugural state tournament appearance this spring.

An opening-round loss to Eagleville didn’t deter them, as the Devils – who started eight underclassmen – powered through three elimination games to finish one win shy of the title game.

Team of the Year: Springfield

Resume: 30-6 record, District 13-4A championship, Region 7-4A championship

Led by their seven-player senior class, the Yellow Jackets set a goal at the beginning of the season to return to – and win – the Class 4A state tournament.

They didn’t win it all, but Springfield made some serious noise in its second-ever trip to Murfreesboro. The Jackets used big plays from college signees Graci Lance (Motlow State) and Brie Asmondy and Sarah Nicholson (Trevecca) before seeing their season end at the hands of eventual state champion Farragut and third-place Daniel Boone.
