WHITE HOUSE – White House senior Madeline Hargrove signed her letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Midway University on Monday.

“She’s a solid athlete,” Midway coach Sherrill Smith said. “She’s got a strong left foot and a knack for putting the ball in the back of the goal. She’s almost ambidextrous as far as both feet. She’s been very well coached and we’re expecting great things from her.”

During her senior year, Hargrove tallied 21 goals and had eight assists. She was named all-district and selected as a state all-star. She also ended her high school soccer career as a state champion with a 1-0 win over Greenville.

“It’s great,” Lady Devils coach Mike Felzien said. “I’m excited that she can expand her college playing career at the next level. She’s getting an opportunity to get a quality education and play the game she loves. Not many people get to do that, so I’m excited for her and all of the girls that are signing.”

Hargrove heads to Midway, which finished its season with a 7-7-1 record. The Lady Eagles started out on o four-game winning streak, but struggled once they entered conference play. Smith is entering his third year as the coach of the Lady Eagles.

Before Midway, Smith coached boys soccer at Frankfort High School and became one of the top-10 winningest coaches in Kentucky. He has also earned several Coach of the Year honors.
