CEDAR HILL – After two days of rainouts, the Jo Byrns’ softball team hosted Clarksville Academy on Wednesday, falling 14-2. CA used to be a district-rival, but have switched to Division II.
The Lady Cougars scored in every inning except the fifth, including a five-run sixth inning that sealed the deal for the win.
Jo Byrns’ scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Olivia Bilyeu led off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Kalie Morrison singled and sent Bilyeu to third, followed by a ground ball from Carlee Scott that scored Bilyeu.
The next two Lady Devils’ reached base on a single and hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Clarksville Academy had back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning with the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jo Byrns got another RBI from Bilyeu. Jaya Herring and Becca Holt led off with back-to-back bunts then a double steal to get both in scoring position with no outs.
After a fly out, Bilyeu hit an RBI single to put runners on the corners with just one out. Despite the 14 runs, only five were earned. The Lady Devils accumulated seven errors in the loss.
Jo Byrns starts district play this week with home games against Houston County on Tuesday and McEwen on Thursday, both at 5 p.m. followed by JV.
