If you aren’t familiar with downtown Springfield, you could pass by a fantastic pizzeria without ever realizing it.
Hidden on Willow Street near the Springfield Post Office sits a simple eatery with few tables but many Italian food choices. Customers can pick from hot or cold sandwiches, calzones, pizza, pastas and more.
With so many options and a weakness for Italian food, I knew I would need some suggestions from the staff. She was friendly and patient as I asked question after question about pizza and pastas alike. I finally decided on a White pizza.
Freshly made pizza can take a few minutes to make as I was informed, but I hardly minded the wait. As I sat in the small dining area, a constant stream of people came through for pick up and delivery. We talked about the food each person ordered, and I got many new suggestions for my next visit. People raved about the cold subs and pizzas, as well as several pasta dishes.
Soon enough, my pizza arrived on a large plater I knew I could never eat alone. This New York style pizza was enormous, fresh from the oven and covered in Ricotta, grated cheese and mozzarella. If you enjoy cheesy foods, this pie is the way to go! The crust was cooked just right to a firm crunch complementing the gooey cheese.
Three pieces in and I was stuffed. I took home at least six pieces. It’s safe to say you get your money’s worth in both taste and portion. I know I look forward to trying the Buffalo pizza next.
Some store favorites include the Penna alla Vodka sautéed pasta dish or any pizza which can be customized with added toppings. Prices range between $8 to $19. After less than a year in business, it became apparent that Angelo’s is growing a fan base in the Springfield and surrounding areas based on the amount of people I saw coming through. I hope to find several new favorite dishes at this establishment in the future.
