Mary Gill “Polly” Goodman passed away, January 6, 2021, at the age of 98. She was born December 24, 1922, in Logan County, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dr. William R. Goodman, a brother, Hugh B. Gill, Jr. and her parents, Hugh and Lillian Gill. She is survived by sons, Bill (Diane) Goodman of Springfield, TN, and Tom (Phyllis) Goodman of South Lyon, Michigan, a sister, Hannah Gill Engel and grandchildren, Claire Goodman (Robert) Sawyer, Alex (Courtney) Goodman, Corey Goodman (Jud) McMichael and Kyle Goodman, and seven great grandchildren, Anne Claire Sawyer, Will Goodman, Robert Sawyer, Clayton Goodman, Ruby McMichael, Lillian Goodman and Hazel McMichael. She was a proud Veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II. She attended Austin Peay State University and later worked for National Life Insurance Company, both before and after the war. After raising her family, she worked as a dental assistant to her husband Dr. W. R. Goodman. She was an active member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, having served as church clerk for many years and after moving to Springfield she was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. She was active in the community, including serving as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Robertson County Historical Society.
In consideration of the Covid-19 pandemic, graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., at Bellwood Cemetery, Adams, TN.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Springfield Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
