Ethel Marie Jones Farmer was born on Jan. 9, 1952 in Memphis, TN to the late Herman and Ethel Marie Jones. God needed another flower for his bouquet in Heaven, so he called Ethel home to be with the Lord on Jan.30, 2020.
Ethel was a proud graduate of Hamilton High School in Memphis, TN class of 1970, where she was a majorette. She went on to attend Tennessee State University in Nashville Tennessee where she majored in political science. After college, Ethel worked in the Executive Branch of the Tennessee State Senate for 39 years.
She professed a hope in Christ at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Memphis Tennessee under the leadership of Pastor S.H. Herring. After moving to Nashville, she joined Banks Chapel United Methodist Church where she served in various positions as Choir Director, Lay Servant, Sunday School Teacher, Delegate to the Tennessee Annual Conference, SPPR, and several other committees. She truly loved her church and loved to sing and direct the choir. She was a loyal and dedicated member for more than forty years. She inspired many people with her melodic voice. Some of her favorite songs she led were "Say The Name", “Thank You Lord", "God Is Able", and "Brighter Day." You can truly feel the spirit of the Lord as she sang.
She was joined in holy matrimony to James Farmer Sr. in May of 1974 and to this union three children were born.
She was an avid TSU football fan where she could be found following the team, cheering and dancing in the stands, whether it was a home or away game. Ethel would often be found sitting in her chair watching CNN and keeping up with all the political news. She has received plaques and commendations for the many weddings she did as a wedding coordinator. Ethel enjoyed life and loved having fun with her friends and family. Ethel loved babysitting and spoiling her three grandchildren every time they were around.
In addition to Ethel's parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Herman Jones Jr. and Donald Ray Jones.
