Charles Odell "Chief" Birdwell. age 91 of Cottontown passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his home. He was born May 31, 1927 in Cottontown to Nathan Montgomery and Rosa Lee Callis Birdwell. He worked as a farmer and as a truck driver. He was a member of Birdwell's Chapel Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Rosa Birdwell; brothers Floyd, J.W. and Bobby Lee Birdwell; sisters, Willie Sue Braswell, Lela Ruth Stancil and Emma Jean Birdwell; infant grandson, Samuel Edwin Marberry.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Frances Parker Birdwell; children, Janice Parks, Ronnie (Linda) Birdwell, Shirley (Rex) Graves, Ginger (Rod) Stamps, Angie (Michael) Marberry; brothers, Wayne (Harriett) Birdwell and Kenneth (Yvonne) Birdwell; sisters, Betty (LeRoy) Scruggs and Brenda Smith 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Bro. Scott Ballard officiating. Interment will follow in Halltown Cemetery with Jason Parks, Brent Parks, Rodney Birdwell, Corey Birdwell, Daniel Birdwell, Thomas Stamps, Michael Marberry and Nathan Marberry serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Butler and Van Pond. Visitation is planned for Sunday, May 12, 2019 2 to 8 p.m. & Monday, May 13, 2019 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
