A 23-year-old man, Christopher Shrum, was charged with a rape in Springfield last week.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim reported to the NorthCrest Medical Center that she was raped by Shrum the night of Thursday, May 6. The police officer was informed Shrum had climbed into the victim’s bed where he began to undress them both, and she told him to stop several times.
Official documents report Shrum forced himself onto the victim while holding a sheet over her mouth to keep her from screaming. After the incident was over, the victim showered when Shrum became angry. He forced the victim to perform a type of cleaning to supposedly rid her body of the evidence and keep her from becoming pregnant.
The affidavit states the officer interviewed Shrum after speaking with the victim at the hospital. He was than mirandized and questioned about the incident. Shrum was untruthful at first, but eventually confessed to the rape. Shrum claimed he didn’t want to be a virgin any longer which prompted the act. He also admitted to researching ways to rid the victim of any evidence.
This crime has been documented as a class B felony which holds a possible punishment of eight to 30 years in prison as well as a $25,000 fine.
Shrum is currently being held in the Robertson County Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond. His first court date is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19.
