On Sunday, Oct. 20, Springfield police arrested and charged three men with the murder of a man in his 20s who was found with multiple stab wounds.
Jose Eduardo Perez, 21, Jose Ernesto Morales Perez, 19, and Erick Ortega Ramos Pioquinto, 24, were charged with first-degree murder of an unnamed Hispanic male at 1810 Woodland St.
According to police reports, when officers arrived, the victim was unresponsive and covered in blood. The victim was pronounced deceased from stab wounds at the scene when EMS arrived.
A witness placed Jose Eduardo Perez, Jose Ernesto Morales Perez and the victim together drinking heavily in the early morning hours on Sunday. Later in the morning, the witness reported hearing yelling and saw the victim pressed against his car by Jose Ernesto Perez and Pioquinto. The witness was able to inform police of the suspects whereabouts.
Jose Ernesto Perez was taken into custody first. Once police arrived at the suspects’ location, Pioquinto and Jose Ernesto Morales Perez fled into the woods before later turning themselves in.
“At this time we have no further information to provide. The case is under investigation and will be prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office,” said Springfield Police Chief Jason Head.
