While BS Brew Works may not look like your typical eatery, don’t let its unique appearance fool you. This fully refurbished building offers patrons the choice of 14 craft brews and simple meals.

The open sitting area is filled with a variety of tables and couches as well as a large bar. The casual atmosphere surrounds me as I choose a seat at the bar.

I’m greeted by one of the two owners, Bob Smith, who prepares to take my order. With options of ales, APAs, IPAs, and pilsners, I have no idea where to start. When I asked for something light and slightly fruity, Smith suggested an American blonde ale called the Bobcat Blonde. The bright, crisp ale was a tasty way to start my meal as I waited for wings to be ready.

Sitting at the bar gave me the chance to talk with Smith and his business partner, and long-time friend Shane Shoemaker. They explained how each of their craft beers was named with some type of local connection. Both men answered my numerous questions about brewing and their business without ever tiring.

As we discussed the various brews on tap, I got to try another beer called the Yellow Jacket. It had a much stronger flavor than the Bobcat Blonde with a lot of earthy tastes. Not one that I could drink a whole pint of but definitely a good beer for anyone interested is something strong.

Soon enough, my food was ready. At the suggestion of another customer, I went with the dry rub wings. I’m so glad I listened. The crispy chicken wings were covered in a delicious mix of seasoning with a ranch dipping sauce. The eight wings were the perfect amount food for me.

As I finished my meal, I decided to try another beer that had been mentioned earlier. The June with raspberry flavoring was probably my favorite drink of the night. It was sour and tangy, great for anyone who enjoys sour candy like I do.

Some brewery favorites are the Barren Plains amber and Midsomer’s night brown ale. No matter what your tastes are, the BS Brew team will find a drink you will enjoy. Prices are low with food and pints under $10.

Customers can join the Mug Club for special prices and exclusive events which will resume in December 2020. They also offer crowlers and growlers for take-out beers and trivia nights on Tuesdays.

I really enjoyed my experience at BS Brew Works, and I hope to return soon.
