A 13-year-old male was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder in Springfield around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29.
According to a press release from the City of Springfield, Springfield police officers responded to the Sleepy Hollow subdivision in reference to gunshots in the area. On arrival, officers were informed that a 15-year-old male had been shot in the chest on the playground. The victim was transported by EMS to Vanderbilt Medical Center.
The release said officials discovered during the investigation that a 13-year-old male was suspected of the shooting and had fled the scene. The suspect was later identified and turned himself into investigators at the scene.
The suspect was taken to the Springfield Police Department before being transported to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center by the Robertson County Sheriff’s Department pending a detention hearing.
