Thursday, December 5 at 4 p.m. is the Christmas on Main Street Celebration and Art show in White House. Local choirs will perform at the official lighting of the tree at City Hall. The walls will be adorned with the work of local artists and a gingerbread house display by White House High School students will be in City Hall. Light refreshments will be served while Alderman Ferris Bibb reads "Twas the Night Before Christmas." It is rumored that Santa may also make an appearance.
The morning of Dec. 7 at 10:30 a.m. is the annual Running of the Elves 5K and Fun Run presented by Tate Ornamental. This year will be the third year of this popular run. The cost to participate in the fun run/walk is $25 per individual and $20 per member as a team. The cost to run in the timed 5K is $30 per individual and $25 per team member.
Every registered participant will receive an official long-sleeve race shirt. This year, a $500 prize will be awarded to the top male and female 5K runners and a $100 prize will go to the top male and female 1-mile runners. A traveling trophy will go home with the "Best Team Costume" and prizes will also go to the "Most Spirited" and "Best Dressed."
Pets are welcome at the event as well. Participants can register on the day of the event at 11 am or by going to RaceEntry.com and entering '37188' in the search box or by calling the White House Chamber of Commerce at 615-672-3937.
Immediately after the Running of the Elves is the White House Christmas Parade. Although it will officially begin at 1 p.m., attendees are urged to find a spot early as there will be temporary road closures on Tyree Springs, Carmack, Hobbs and Valley View roads between 12:20 and 12:40 p.m. for the Fun Run. This year, the theme of the parade will be "A White House Historical Christmas."
The parade Grand Marshal will be City Historian Evelyn Guill. The parade route will begin at City Park lower parking lot and will progress down Highway 76 to Highway 31W where it will turn in front of the library moving south to West Drive to circle back to the park.
The White House Chamber of Commerce will host a Christmas Open House on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and Santa will be in attendance.
