The Oak Ridge Boys will headline at the City of Springfield’s Freedom Fest, slated July 3 at the Robertson County Fairgrounds.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. for the free event, featuring carnival rides, inflatables for the kids, plus around 20 vendors, as well as food options.

Live music, sponsored by Grace Baptist Church, will kick off soon after gates open — with opening acts the High Road, a Grammy award nominated gospel group, and local artists Stephen Hogan, the Wyatt Wood Band, Justin Tucker and the Devon Williams Band.

Then the Oak Ridge Boys, a multiple Grammy and County Music Association (CMA) winner, will take the stage as the final performance just prior to the fireworks show.

The gospel and country music group, known for such hits as “Elvira,” and “Bobbie Sue,” will perform for around an hour to an hour-and-a-half, according to Terry Martin, Springfield Parks and Recreation director.

Seating will be available in the bleachers, but guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to sit in the open area of the arena, Martin noted.

“Last year, we probably had six to 7,000 (in attendance),” Martin said. “And this year, we expect more, mainly because the word has spread about the rides, inflatables and the Oak Ridge Boys are a big draw.”

The city, in partnership with North Springfield Baptist Church, will launch a 20-to-25-minute fireworks show from the nearby church property as the evening’s finale, with prime viewing at the fairgrounds, Martin said.
