The Charlotte Reeves Robertson Chapter, DAR met with area mayors on Sept. 4, to sign proclamations announcing Constitution Week. The observance runs annually from Sept. 17 - 23.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially enacted it into public law on Aug. 2, 1956, after a congressional resolution was petitioned by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The role of the DAR today is to educate citizens about the Constitution, signed on Sept. 17, 1787. It is the document that frames our government and assures citizens of the freedoms Americans cherish and enjoy.
Signing proclamations were Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle, Coopertown Mayor Glenn Guyor, Cross Plains Mayor Barry Faulkner, Greenbrier Mayor Bonnette Dawson, and Springfield Mayor Ann Schneider. Also participating were Chapter Regent Nina Kumar, Chapter Chaplain Becky Wall and Chapter Constitution Week Chairman Liz King.
