The Springfield Police Department is asking the public for assistance in identifying four suspects who they say have been passing counterfeit money in the city.

Police say the bills passed locally have been traced to other counterfeit bills passed in Mt. Juliet and also in Louisville, Ky.

The counterfeit money is being passed in large sums of $20 bills in both Dollar General and WalMart stores.

Police say the counterfeit bills, which have a wax paper texture and also a strong odor of colon and baby powder, are being used to purchase gift cards.

Anyone with information on the suspects should call the Springfield Police Department at 615-384-8422.
