On Thursday, Aug. 24, Matthey Kilkenny assumed his new position as Springfield Middle School's newest assistant principal, replacing former assistant principal Matthew Coffee.
Kilkenny was raised in Michigan and earned his Bachelor of Arts at Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo. He has taught in several different regions of the U.S. including Colorado, Arizona and Texas, before settling in Middle Tennessee in 2013. He has served with Metro Nashville Public Schools since then, as both a teacher and administrator, with his most recent responsibility being that of Dean of Students at Nashville School of Arts.
While working for the Metro Nashville school system, Kilkenney added a Masters of Educational Leadership degree from Trevecca to his credentials.
Along with wife of 5 years, Michelle, Kilkenny lives in Springfield. He enjoys working on and riding motorcycles in his spare time.
"As I get older, more and more I find myself getting interested in vehicles, which is my dad through and through," he said.
Kilkenny said he is excited with his new responsibilities.
"We hit the ground running yesterday," he said. "This is what I love to do."
