CROSS PLAINS - The East Robertson soccer team defeated Greenbrier 8-1 Tuesday night at home.
Camryn Evilcizer gave the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead, scoring the first two goals - one coming on a penalty kick. Peyton Lackey was the next to score a goal for the Lady Indians, giving them a 3-0 lead to head into half time.
"We tried to make a few adjustments at half time," East head coach Todd Evilcizer said. "We tried to make them focus more and finish more opportunities. We took a lot of shots but we just couldn't find the goal. After we got them to calm down and focus some more, they started hitting shots. After that, it became infectious. Everyone was hungry and everyone wanted to score."
In the opening minute of the second half, Izzy Lanius scored a goal to make it 5-0. The next goal was Camryn Evilcizer's third goal to give her the hat trick and the Lady Indians a 6-0 lead.
Madison Tatum scored the next goal on a header to make it a 7-0 lead. Just in time, Greenbrier added a goal to avoid the shutout and make it 7-1.
Moments before the final buzzer, Natalie Adkins put the final goal in the net for East Robertson, making it an 8-1 final score.
After having four Lady Indians out with injuries, Evilcizer said he's proud of the way the youngers girls have stepped up to keep their season alive.
"I'm very proud of the younger players that have stepped up in the absence," he said. "It adds depth to the bench, and depth will win you ball games. Hopefully we can compile that and get a lot of minutes out of a lot of different players. The goal is to involve as many people as possible, which will help us outlast some teams and win more games."
